House rules
Editorial standards
This journal sits in a noisy field. Sleep tips, water filters, gut protocols and energy healing all attract people who are tired and hoping. Our job is to be useful without becoming a clinic, a church or a shop.
Independence
Editors, not advertisers, decide what runs. A contributor's clinic, course or product must be declared. Paid copy is labelled. Sponsored or paid links use rel="sponsored". We would rather publish fewer essays than rent the masthead.
Evidence and language
- We separate a personal or clinical anecdote from a population claim.
- We do not use "cure", "treats" or "clinically proven" unless the public record actually supports the sentence.
- Complementary practice is described as complementary practice. It is not mocked and it is not licensed as medicine.
- Australian sources are preferred where they exist: Sleep Health Foundation, NHMRC, BOM, state health departments, AHPRA, TGA.
People and harm
We do not publish anything that tells a reader to stop prescribed medicine, ignore chest pain, or replace a sleep study with a crystal. Essays that mention suicide, disordered eating or family violence include a path to help. We do not identify private patients.
Corrections
Factual errors are corrected on the page with a dated note when the change is material. Send the essay URL and the sentence through the contact form. Disagreement about emphasis is not a correction. A defamation complaint is handled separately and quickly.
Sources and AI
Writers may use research tools. They may not invent quotations, studies, or practitioners. If an essay draws on a named paper, the paper should exist. Images are Creative Commons or public domain, credited on the essay and on the credits page.
Voice
Australian English. Specific weather. Ordinary kitchens. The original site's warmth without its product pitch. We assume the reader is intelligent, tired, and allergic to being sold a new personality before breakfast. For pitches, see write for us.
